Sugar Beet – Play That Funky Bingo – Blurb for May 5, 2026
Sugar Beet – Play That Funky Bingo – April 21, 2026
The Sugar Beet crowd rolled in strong this week, packing the place with about 85 players and the kind of early‑evening buzz 🐝that only Tuesday energy and good food can produce. It was one of those nights where the room felt full before the first song even hit, and by the time cards were out, everyone was already leaning in.
Round 1 kicked things off with One Hit Wonders Part 2, a celebration of artists who struck gold once and then spent the rest of their careers politely waving at that moment from afar. Bingo Achievers stacked up quickly, and the room warmed right into it.
Round 2 shifted gears into Southern Rock, and the vibe changed instantly. You could feel the collective head‑nod from the tables that grew up on it, the tables that discovered it later, and the tables that pretended they knew every song but absolutely did not. Bingo Achievers kept rolling in, and the room stayed loud in the best way. Seems you folks are beginning to catch on and we had more than 20 people complete the assigned Secret Art Bonus from the previous blurb! Well done.
Round 3 brought 80’s Part 4, which always hits like a neon‑colored memory you didn’t know you still had. The achievers list grew again, and half the room leaned into the nostalgia like it was a group project while the other half kept mumbling things like "dang synthesizers ruined music" and "when's this guy gonna start playing real music?" In my world, music is ART (not Garfunkel) and ART's beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Music's a little different... with music, beauty is usually in the eyes of the beer-holder. And if you want to have your name added to the Winners' Wheel for prize consideration, even if you don't get a bingo at the next game, draw a "beer-holder" at the bottom of your Round 2 Bingo Card. (Do this as soon as you get the card, because if you achieve a bingo in Round 2, the presence of the Art Bonus means your name goes on the Wheel TWICE! But, as usual, if you don't achieve bingo in Round 2, walk that card with Art Bonus on it and hand it to your Host when you go up to get your Round 3 card. Don't forget!)
Round 4 closed with 70’s Part 7, the whiners came back to life and the achievers list exploded. It was one of those rounds where half the room seemed to be one number away at all times, and the other half was loudly insisting they were also one number away even when they weren’t even looking at the right card. Classic Sugar Beet chaos. On a side note... your singing was best in this final round. The takeaway for me is, get that second adult beverage in you earlier... y'all always sing better after that second beverage.
When the Winners’ Wheel finally spun, the gift card luck fell to Mark D, Jeff W, Laura H, and Linda B, each walking away with a little something for their efforts and their good fortune.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated to the Kids’ Safety and Biking partnership with Bridgeville Public Library. Our resident bike‑a‑holic, Rich, had to leave early but we feel confident he would have been glowing with pride at your participation in this great cause. Anything involving two wheels and internal locomotion is his love language, and your support meant the world.
Next game: Tuesday, May 5 at 5:00pm. Bring your friends, your dabbers, your competitive spirit, and your best Tuesday energy.
