Sugar Beet Market – Play That Funky Bingo – Blurb from March 17, 2026

πŸ€St. Patrick’s Day at Sugar Beet is always a bit of a social experiment, and this year did not disappoint. An Irish band wrapped up right before showtime, which meant their entire audience drifted into our space like a green‑clad tide. Census came in at 137, plus 20 or 30 others who weren’t playing but were absolutely committed to standing exactly where I needed to walk.

I wore my kilt
because if you’re going to host a St. Patrick’s Day show, you might as well lean in. Several players reminded me to “guard my bits” when I sat down, which is the kind of community support you just can’t buy. Thanks for that! (No mention if my bits were seen or this was just preventative advice!)

We opened with British Invasion, which hit perfectly after the fiddles stopped. A whole parade of Funky Bingo achievers grabbed wins led by John D. Our in-house Brit approved of this Round, calling it the best bit of music he'd likely hear all night. OK, Mr. Snooty Pants Brit. God save the king and all that rot.

Classic Rock Part 1 followed, and 18 neighbors got their moment of glory. Some of them even sang along, which I will neither confirm nor deny was on key.

Then came 80s Part 2 — or so I thought. Three songs in, a sharp guest approached the kilted host and and said, “Nobody at our table has dabbed once. Could there be an issue?” She was right. I had loaded 80s Part 1 on the spreadsheet while distributing 80s Part 2 to the room. A lesser host would blame you all for your horrible luck, I simply nodded like this was all part of the plan and corrected course. Nothing says “live entertainment” like sweet Host screw-up and save.

We closed with Class of 1970. After a quick survey of the crowd it was clear many of you were in school in High School or college in 1970, and the Funky Bingo Achievers list was long enough to qualify as a class reunion! If you graduated in 1970 and didn’t win, you must’ve been in the parking lot rolling a big fat doobie! Either way, if you went to school, you're no fool! And since our next game is April 7th, write this secret phrase at the bottom of your Second Round Funky Bingo card and give it to your Host when the round is over. Write it on your Round 2 card as soon as you get the card, because if you achieve a Funky Bingo, your name will go on the wheel TWICE and if you didn't just turn the card in with the phrase at the end of the round and your name will be on the Winner's Wheel at least once!

Finally, the Winner's Wheel was populated and almost visible on the new TV. Prize winners for the night were:
Lisa D ($5)
Duane S ($10)
Kim B ($15)
and Michael B ($20)
As always, once someone wins a prize, all their entries come off the wheel, which is the closest thing we have to Bridgeville economic reform.

Liking or sharing photos on Facebook helps keep attendance strong and the singing, well, the singing but louder. https://facebook.com/playthatfunkybingo - if you "LIKE" our page, you will see the photo posting in your feed, so please LIKE OUR PAGE!
